Found object color wheel. 🌈
Oak pollen had us inside more than usual this week 🤧 and this fun little project was just what we needed! We did a little color scavenger hunt and gathered up little toys and objects from around the house to make this color wheel which turned into endless play! Inspired by my friend @mamarawski. ❤️

Peek a Boo!
Do three year old really think you can’t see them when they hide their face?
Well, it turns out, they actually do. I’ve always been fascinated by child development ideas to explain things like this and there have been many, many studies done on chidden playing peek-a-boo and hide and seek. One study found that young children understand visibility in a bidirectional sense, as in: Unless two people make eye contact, it is impossible for one to see the other.

Children have a natural desire for connection. In fact, they cannot exist without it. It’s easy to get swept up in all that life is throwing our way, but we have to find ways to slow down, find time to sit with your little ones, and really *see* them. When we look our little ones in the eyes, when we respond to their questions and have a real conversation, when we can listen and let them know their thoughts are being heard…that’s when a child emerges from her hiding spot. Smiling, confident, and ready to take on the world. ❤️ And don’t worry, these were taken a couple weeks ago pre-social distancing on our family camping trip while we were blissfully unaware that the world was falling apart. But we need connection now more than ever. ✨

Meet Aspen, the newest addition to our little home

Meet Aspen, the newest addition to our little homestead! We’re stuck at home for at least another month so we figured now is as good a time as any for a new pup! She’s an 70lb, 11-month old Great Pyrenees mix and so, so sweet. #petadoption
We got her from @sapetsalive who barely saved her from the city’s euthanasia list. She’s malnourished, has lost a lot of hair, and was covered with fleas when we got her but in just a week she has already started filling out and looking more healthy.
In this time of uncertainty and loneliness, she has brought life and laughter back to our family. If you’re feeling the stay-at-home blues, I totally recommend contacting your local rescue organization to see about fostering or adopting a furry friend! #petadoption #greatpyrenees

Spring teatime...not sure there’s much better than this. A bright end to a down week. Stepping into the weekend with hope and joy for all the blessings we have and the beautiful world around us. ☺️ I pulled down our box of spring books and this one here is an all-time favorite. Our school room has never been this messy but we’ve had a full schedule of virtual play dates and it has been the best. We did an art lesson with the cousins, they had a virtual pillow fight, we got to hang out and watch my niece army crawl, and then they gathered all of their stuffies for an impromptu play. ☺️ We’re struggling a bit over here. Thankful for our health and the comforts of home, but worried for the unknown and missing connecting with friends and family. This certainly helps. Making a note to do more of it. Are you connecting with family and friends through technology? I’d love more ideas for “play dates” we can do with friends!

Are you back into your normal groove? We are finding our new rhythm and enjoying more slow, intentional activities as a family.
Wet-on-wet watercolor is a big favorite with my littles- have you tried it? We love to spray the paper with a spray bottle (I’m not sure why this is so fun, but it is!) and then use one or a couple colors of liquid watercolors to saturate the entire paper. It’s really amazing what you can create with just one or two colors and it’s neat to watch how the watercolor spreads on the wet paper.

Art is so good for the soul, I’m going to try to work in some art for us everyday. What kind of art have your kids been loving lately?

Planting a garden is trusting in the promise of a tiny seed and having faith for good things yet to come.
We are preparing to plant our fourth, and I daresay, final garden. We’ve moved so much over the past few years that we’ve never really gotten to enjoy the fruits of our labor. If you remember our garden at our old house, it was huge. It was beautiful. It was planned to the last detail.
Last weekend, we decided we better throw some seeds in the ground. We have no garden beds and had no idea where we should build a garden. Then this little spot called out to us. This old windmill sits in a raised bed right in our front yard right next to our driveway. It’s not huge, it’s not well planned, and it doesn’t look like much.
But to us, a garden is more than just plants. A garden is a promise. Now we just have to give it a little love, wait for the sun to shine the sun shines, sprinkle it with hope daily, and have faith. Good things are coming, friends. 🌱
