I got my first “real” camera, a DSLR, after my first baby was born. I didn’t want to miss a chance to capture every cute moment with her. With a few photography classes and some practice, I became our family’s resident photographer, and the amount of photos with me actually in them dwindled.
Moms are so good at playing the mom card to get out of photos. I haven’t lost the baby weight. I haven’t showered today. My hair is in a messy ponytail.
There are so many excuses, but none of them will matter in 25 years. You know it. I know it.
A BIG thank you to my friend Samantha with Samantha Sloan Photography for doing a photo session with me and my babies! I did not receive financial compensation from this post. I did receive a complimentary session, but don’t worry, all opinions are my own. Scroll down to the end to see more pics and for a discount for your own studio session!
But let’s review these 3 completely obvious reasons every mom needs photos with her kids:
1. Time Flies
Every single day, our children are older than the day before. There’s no stopping them. They just keep growing up.
When I look at each of my babies, my heart almost bursts from joy. I want that captured on camera.
I want them to know how much I have loved them at each and every stage of their lives.
I want them to see us reading books together, laughing together, playing outside, and doing all the things we have done since the day they were born.
2. Posterity
We won’t be around forever. It’s inevitable. Who knows it it will be next year or 20 year from now or 60 years from now.
But whenever that time comes, our children will need to see us. Memories of how we looked at their 8th birthday party may fade, but a picture is forever.
3. We’re worth it
Stepping into the frame sends the message that we’re worth it. When we offer up all the reasons why we can’t be in the picture, our children are listening.
It’s true, my hair is almost always a mess. You can probably bet that I have spit up or mashed banana on my shirt. And yeah, that baby weight is sticking around way longer than I’d like. But to my children, I am so much more than all of those petty excuses. Don’t we all deserve to know that we are worth so much more than that?
While I am usually the one behind the camera, I was so happy for the chance to get some photos done with all of my babies. I really wanted to get some light and airy photos, and Samantha Sloan Photography’s all-white studio was exactly what I was looking for!
Samantha was great with all three of my kids and really captured their personalities. I’m kind of tearing up just looking at these thinking about how fast these little ones will be all grown up. So thankful for having moments like this on “film” for our family to cherish forever, unwashed hair and all!
If you’re looking for a family session or holiday photos, Samantha is graciously offering my readers 15% off a studio session for those local here in the San Antonio area. Contact her to book your session by December 1, 2017, and let her know you heard about her here on the blog.
Prepare for a photo bomb because there were so many good ones, I just have to share a bunch!

This post is so right on… and yes, the time… it zips past us when we least expect it.
Thank you for getting these done.
I, too, am tearing up.
I love you.
